YHR Chicken Manure Biogas Projects

  • Zunhua Project
    Zunhua Project
The primary raw materials for the project are corn straw, human dung, and chicken manure. There are two stages to the project. The 45,000 m³ of biogas is used to produce electricity and is purified into natural gas; the leftover biogas is used to make organic fertilizer, and the liquid biogas is used to irrigate agricultural land.

What are the main components of a Chicken Manure Biogas Plant?

What are the main components of a Chicken Manure Biogas Plant?

The primary components of a poultry biogas plant include:

  • Anaerobic digester: where chicken manure and organic waste are processed to produce biogas.

  • Gas collection system: to capture and store the biogas produced during digestion.

  • Gas purification system: to remove impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and moisture from the biogas.

  • Gas utilization system: for using biogas as a renewable energy source for electricity generation, heating, or vehicle fuel.

YHR's Technical Solutions for High-Nitrogen Chicken Manure

Poultry manure presents unique challenges for anaerobic digestion, primarily due to its high nitrogen content, which can lead to ammonia inhibition, and its high concentration of hydrogen sulfide. YHR Environment has developed and refined specialized processes to overcome these hurdles, ensuring efficient and stable biogas production from poultry waste.

Pre-Treatment & Feedstock Optimization: Chicken manure alone often has an imbalanced Carbon-to-Nitrogen (C/N) ratio. YHR's solution frequently involves co-digestion with carbon-rich materials like straw or energy crops. Our integrated fiber feedstock pretreatment system prepares these materials for efficient mixing, creating an ideal substrate for robust microbial activity and maximizing biogas from chicken waste.

Ammonia Inhibition Resistance: High ammonia levels can disrupt the digestion process. YHR employs advanced digester designs and process controls, such as adaptations of our Anaerobic Biological Doubling Process (ABDP), to manage nitrogen levels effectively. This maintains a stable microbial environment even with high-nitrogen feedstocks, ensuring continuous and efficient gas production and directly addressing feasibility concerns for biogas from poultry waste.

High-Efficiency Desulfurization: Biogas from chicken manure typically contains elevated levels of corrosive hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). YHR utilizes its patented Bio-DeSulfurization (Bio-DeS) technology to remove H₂S biologically. This method is more economical and environmentally friendly than chemical alternatives, protecting downstream equipment and producing clean, usable biogas.

Digestate Treatment & Fertilizer Enhancement: The nutrient-rich liquid digestate (effluent) is a valuable by-product. YHR systems can include further treatment steps to condition this effluent, transforming it into a stabilized, high-quality liquid organic fertilizer. This adds significant value for agricultural use, closing the nutrient loop and providing an additional revenue stream for the poultry biogas plant.
